Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
His defensive approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.
Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
